Dr. Matthew Lindemann

Founder of Borealis LIFE

Dr. Matthew Lindemann is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist with more than 25 years of experience in patient-centered women’s health care . He is the founder of Borealis LIFE, Anchorage’s premier clinic for evidence-based, individualized care in endometriosis, pelvic pain, and fibroids . Over his career, Dr. Lindemann has helped thousands of women restore function and hope through a compassionate, whole-person approach .

Recognized nationally for his surgical expertise, he is one of only a few hundred U.S. gynecologists with a Focused-Practice Designation in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, earned in October 2022 . With over 2000 minimally invasive surgeries performed, he offers advanced laparoscopic treatments for complex cases, always paired with empathetic communication and customized care plans that honor each patient’s unique journey .

Dr. Lindemann believes in being both physician and healer, providing not just treatment, but understanding and partnership, listening deeply to patients’ needs, and guiding them toward relief and empowerment .

Dr. Shiloh Small

Dr. Shiloh Small, MD, FACOG is a board-certified gynecologist trained at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She is Northern Cheyenne and was raised on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation in Montana, where early teachings about community, relationship to land, and respect for women as life-givers continue to guide her understanding of healing. Dr. Small has lived in Anchorage since 2012 and previously practiced at Southcentral Foundation/Alaska Native Medical Center. Her work is grounded in a healing-centered, trauma-informed approach to care that honors the whole person—body, mind, spirit, family, and community. She prioritizes safety, trust, choice, and empowerment in clinical spaces, recognizing the impacts of intergenerational and lived trauma on health and well-being. She is deeply committed to advocating for women and creating care environments rooted in dignity, cultural humility, and relational respect. Her clinical interests include minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, approached with thoughtful, patient-centered decision-making. Dr. Small has completed yoga teacher training, which informs her trauma-aware integration of breath, mindful movement, and embodied awareness into healing practices. This work supports regulation of the nervous system, reconnection with the body, and restoration of agency—elements central to trauma-informed care. Beyond medicine, Dr. Small is a mother of three and finds restoration through time on the land and in movement. She enjoys traveling, gardening, camping and riding ATVs, hiking, and listening to audiobooks—practices that support balance, reflection, and resilience.

Registered Nurses

Medical Assistants

Megan Corwin, NCMA

Megan serves as Dr. Lindemann’s medical assistant and surgery scheduler. After your initial appointment, Megan becomes your main point of contact throughout your care. She helps guide patients through each step of the process—from answering questions and coordinating referrals to scheduling surgery and preparing you for what to expect before and during recovery. Patients will see her at every follow-up, pre-operative, and post-operative visit, ensuring continuity and support along the way.

Megan’s dedication to endometriosis care is deeply personal. She was diagnosed with endometriosis at 14 and spent years searching for answers before finally finding a provider who truly listened. Dr. Lindemann performed two of her surgeries, and today he is also helping care for her daughters, who were recently diagnosed as well. That experience fuels Megan’s passion for supporting others through the challenges of pelvic pain and endometriosis, something she sees as far more than a job.

Outside of the clinic, Megan loves gardening, traveling, and exploring Alaska whenever she can. She’s an avid scuba diver and is currently learning to freedive, always looking for her next adventure.

Nurse Practioners

Emily Timberlake, RN

Chenile Valencia, Receptionist

Aubrey Byrne, Coding & Billing

Emily Timberlake, RN moved to Alaska at the age of seven and considers herself a lifelong Alaskan. She left the state for nursing school, but when it came time to decide where to go after graduation, she and her husband felt a strong pull to return. There’s something about the community in Alaska that, in her words, “you can’t find anywhere else.”

In the eight years since returning, Emily began her nursing career, got married, and started a family. She’s now a proud mom to three little girls who bring immense joy to her life and who are one of her biggest motivations for the work she does.

Emily has been drawn to women’s health for as long as she can remember. Her favorite TV show at age ten was A Baby Story on TLC, something she admits might be unusual, but feels deeply telling. That early curiosity never faded. As she grew older, she knew she wanted to care for women and saw nursing as the best path to make that happen.

The majority of Emily’s career has been spent in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Over time, her passion for this work has only deepened. She’s proud to have walked alongside hundreds of women reclaiming their lives from chronic pelvic pain. Every day, she listens to stories of women who have been dismissed or overlooked by the healthcare system. As frustrating as those stories can be, they give her a clear purpose: to change the narrative.

At Borealis LIFE, Emily offers women a voice, unwavering support, and compassionate care through every step of their healing process. For her, this work is more than a career, it’s her calling.

Angelia Trujillo, WHNP

Amber Valencia, NCMA

Amber was born and raised in North Carolina and moved to Alaska in 2020 with her husband and their five boys. She’s a basketball mom, a dancer at heart, a special needs advocate, and someone who loves learning new things.
She’s been a certified medical assistant since 2010 and holds an associate’s degree in Applied Science. Over the years, she’s worked in many medical specialties, but she’s grown into the women’s health field and now feels at home.
Amber began PA school but made the decision to step away to advocate for her son with autism. She later returned to school to complete her bachelor’s degree in Health Science, and her future goal is to become a registered nurse and eventually a nurse practitioner, so she can continue caring for the patients she already supports.
She currently works as the NCMA to Nurse Practitioners Angelia Trujillo, WHNP-BC, and Debra Hobbins, APRN. Together, they focus on women’s hormones, hormone pellet therapy, gender-affirming care, sexual health, and GLP-1 treatments for weight loss.

Admin

Chenile is originally from Brooklyn, though she moved frequently while growing up. After graduating high school around the beginning of the COVID era, she entered the workforce right away. A few years later, she made the move to Alaska to reconnect with family she had deeply missed. She has now been in Alaska for about three years and still feels there is so much left to explore.

At Borealis LIFE, Chenile is the friendly face who greets patients at the front desk. As the clinic’s receptionist, she helps patients get checked in, answers questions, and keeps things running smoothly throughout the day. She enjoys being one of the first people patients interact with and helping create a welcoming, supportive environment from the moment they arrive.

Working at Borealis LIFE has also given Chenile a deeper understanding of women’s health and the challenges many people face when searching for answers about pelvic pain. Her own experiences with being told her symptoms were “just period cramps” have made it especially meaningful to work in a place where patients are truly listened to and taken seriously. She enjoys connecting with patients who are beginning their journey toward better health and a better quality of life.

Outside of work, Chenile loves traveling, reading thrillers, and exploring her creative side. She enjoys painting and spending time in the kitchen, especially baking, and is always excited to try something new.

Aubrey was born and raised in Fairbanks and spent a few years of her childhood living in Hawaii. She has worked in medical billing for more than twenty years and is a Certified Medical Coder (CPC). At Borealis LIFE, she leads the billing department, helping manage the clinic’s coding and billing processes and supporting the team behind the scenes.

Outside of work, Aubrey has a creative side. She is also a professional singer! When she’s not working or performing, she enjoys spending time outdoors and taking in Alaska’s beautiful scenery.

Amber Madsen, Medical Records

Anna holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Cellular & Molecular Biology, where she conducted focused research on bacteriophage genetics. Her time in the lab studying the genetic behavior of bacteriophages sparked a lasting interest in research, and she hopes to return to laboratory work someday.

At Borealis LIFE, Anna manages medical records, helping ensure that patient information is organized, accurate, and accessible for the clinical team. Her work behind the scenes plays an important role in supporting patient care and helping the clinic run smoothly. She especially enjoys being part of a team that makes a meaningful difference in patients’ lives and appreciates seeing the positive impact the clinic has on people who have often been searching for answers for years.

Outside of work, Anna shares her home with a cat who absolutely runs the household. She enjoys listening to K-pop, practicing embroidery, and collecting Smiskis, some of which you might notice around the office. These creative hobbies give her a chance to relax and express her artistic side.

Dr. Patricia Capo (Tricia) - OBGYN, advocate, and enrolled member of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe, White Earth Nation. Raised on the White Earth reservation in northern Minnesota, Tricia brings the heart of her community and the precision of her Mayo Clinic training to every patient encounter.

Tricia earned her medical degree from the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine and completed her residency at both Mayo Clinic and the Greenville Hospital System in South Carolina. She now serves as the Chief Clinical Consultant for ObGyn with Indian Health Services, shaping national care standards while staying deeply connected to the needs of individual women.

She chose gynecology because she believes women are the backbone of society – carrying the weight of families, communities, and systems in ways that are too often overlooked. Her mission is to provide care that honors that labor: never rushed, minimized, and always grounded in deep respect.

Now, at Borealis LIFE, Tricia has found a community of likeminded people committed to delivering exceptional care.
